This article looks at the potential for psychedelic drugs to treat depression. Furthermore it examines possible new formulations where benefits may be gained without actually experiencing a "trip" (ie the psychedelic experiences). This is an exciting area of research but it would be fair to say that some concerns exist. None of these treatments is yet licenced in UK/EU, and the "non psychedelic psychedelics" are yet to be shown to have proven efficacy. Indeed some studies suggest the "trip" is an essential part of efficacy. There are also concerns about potential adverse effects including psychosis. The article does touch on these issues but is perhaps over-positive given the current state of evidence. Nevertheless it is well written and the topic is interesting and important.
