A community-led model for trustworthy science review

Accurate reporting of science is a universal concern. Scientific research is conducted to benefit society, and that benefit depends on how the work is communicated. It affects how people understand and respond to new findings across health, climate, technology, and beyond. Science reporting shapes public choices, personal decisions and democratic debate. When science is misrepresented, society’s response is delayed, disproportionate, or counterproductive.

AuthentiSci was created to give researchers a clearer way to help. Expert input needs to be timely, transparent, scalable and available where science news is first encountered. Our platform gives researchers a way to add context and clarity alongside media coverage, so readers can see how strong the evidence is and where the gaps are.

Being a non-profit is part of the promise that our work is for public benefit. AuthentiSci is not designed to maximise clicks, sell attention, or turn expert judgement into a commercial product. It exists to support better science communication, stronger journalism and a more informed public conversation.

In 2025, we registered AuthentiSci as a charity, with a charitable object to advance the education of the public.

Our model is community driven. Researchers bring subject expertise, volunteers support the platform and its relationships, and partners help our work to travel further. We want AuthentiSci to feel like it belongs to these communities, who give the platform its purpose, reach and credibility.

Critical to this community are the researchers who provide visible expert contribution. Many researchers care deeply about how their field is understood, especially when their own work enters the media. AuthentiSci lowers the barrier by making it possible for scientists from any country or discipline to add context, clarify uncertainty and recognise quality where it is due.

We depend heavily on a fantastic group of volunteers with skills beyond research. People with a range of backgrounds, from communications and public relations to design and data science, help support the platform. Together, they allow us to build trust, reach new communities, improve the reviewer experience and create the systems that enable expert review to scale.

Science moves quickly. Media coverage moves faster. Misinformation spreads fastest of all. But the scientific community contains an extraordinary depth of knowledge, judgement and public spirit. AuthentiSci makes that collective expertise easier to mobilise.
